Animal Centre Staff

Here are the staff that can be found working hard at the Centre on Abbey Street.

Deb

This is Deb, our Branch Manager, on holiday with her two Derby RSPCA rescue dogs - unfortunately Bruno, the old fella, is no longer with us but he absolutely loved being on holiday at the seaside - there was always something interesting to sniff out on the beach!

After a while, things didn't feel quite right with just one dog so Deb and her husband began weekend fostering for us. The last dog fostered, Lexi who has become good pals with Penny, has now been adopted by Deb. Lexi is looking decidedly bored at the latest England performance...

LUCY

Lucy is our Animal Care Supervisor and she has been part of the Derby & District RSPCA team for nearly 10 years now! She has a passion for all the animals in our care and she has fostered many a needy animal, including the pigeons that are occasionally brought into us! She has adopted 3 Daschunds who love life.

Victoria

Victoria is our Income Generation Manager, and she joined the team in November 2012. She has two guinea pigs which her sons love to bits, and it wasn't long after she arrived that we managed to persuade her to act as foster mum to a 10 week old puppy!

Victoria is the go-to staff member for fundraising events, the schools educational programme, corporate sponsorship and the charity shops

Malcolm

Malcolm is our Customer Care Manager and is responsible for customer service and shop sales at Abbey Street. He has his own Staffie X rescue called Archie, but Patch was his constant companion at work until we found him a lovely new home to go to even though he is 14! Malcolm is passionate about animal welfare and is particularly focused at the moment on trying to highlight the importance of people having their cats neutered.

Leanne

Leanne started volunteering with us at the end of 2010 and became an employee in 2012. She is now the Volunteer Co-ordinator & Administrator. She has two cats, an elderly burmese and a young stray who turned up one day and decided she didn't want to leave!

Beki

Beki recently joined our team as the Animal Care Team Leader. With her 10 years of experience as a Veterinary Nurse, there isn't much that she doesn't know! She also has 6 dogs - four Rottweilers and two Crossbreeds - and 2 rescue cats. Quite a handful but in her own words, she wouldn't be without them. Even with the 4.30am starts!

Matt

Matt has worked for Derby RSPCA since leaving school. Matt enjoys working with all the different types of animals at the Centre but has a couple of adopted cats at home - he also has a soft spot for hamsters. Matt is a bit of a expert when it comes to handling cats and has a special touch with the nervous ones - he seems to know exactly what to do to make them feel at home.

Beth

Beth recently joined our team as an Animal Care Assistant. She is a graduate of Broomfield College and has a love of all animals, although cats hold a special place in her heart. At home she has a spaniel and a cat, who avoid each other!

Denise

Denise has worked at a couple of RSPCA branches but has settled with us now. Denise is one of our Animal Care staff and there isn't much that gets by her when it comes to caring for the dogs and cats at Derby RSPCA. She has a rescue Hamster, cat and dog. Just recently she had the opportunity to hand rear a tiny kitten and got so attached to him she simply couldn't bear to give him up for adoption and chose to keep him forever. Recently she has become the proud mum of 2 baby ferrets! "I love every day at the shelter; there is always something different. No two days are the same!"

Andrea

Meet Andrea, one of our Animal Care / Relief Receptionist staff. Andrea originally started as the receptionist at Derby RSPCA but has moved towards animal care and loves it. She has been with us for several years and has owned animals her whole life. There isn't much that goes on with the cats and small animals that she doesn't know about. Andrea has adopted a dog, hamster, a cat and recently a beautiful ginger kitten: "He's so cheeky but that’s what I love, I wouldn't be without him". Here is Andrea with one of her beloved horses.

Sue

Sue is our lovely receptionist. Sue and her partner live with their two beloved rescue dogs, one Staffy & one Staffy Cross, and their huge rescue cat, Harry!

Amanda

Amanda is our other Receptionist, who joined our team at the end of 2012. She has settled in fabulously and has even fostered several of our animals for us.

Charity Shops

We are always in need of donations for our shops. If you're planning a spring clean or clearing out your wardrobe think of us!

If you have old clothes, bedlinen or scraps of material we can recycle these too. Our Rags To Riches donations allow us to raise money for our Animal Centre by recycling old material and prevent them from becoming landfill. Please mark these donations as 'RAGS'.

How Gift Aid works

The Gift Aid scheme is for gifts of money by individuals who pay UK tax. Gift Aid donations are regarded as having basic rate tax deducted by the donor. Charities or CASCs take your donation - which is money you've already paid tax on - and reclaim the basic rate tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on its 'gross' equivalent - the amount before basic rate tax was deducted.

Basic rate tax is 20 per cent, so this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £12.50 to the charity.

How to make a donation using Gift Aid

In order to make a Gift Aid donation you’ll need to make a Gift Aid declaration. The charity will normally ask you to complete a simple form - one form can cover every gift made to the same charity or CASC for whatever period you choose, and can cover gifts you have already made and/or gifts you may make in the future.

A Gift Aid declaration must include:

  • your full name
  • your home address
  • the name of the charity
  • details of your donation, and it should say that it's a Gift Aid donation
