Volunteer Fosterer

We are currently looking for fosterers for dogs, cats, rabbits and small animals.

The most common reason animals need to go into a foster homes includes:

  • the animal is an infant or elderly

  • the animal is pregnant or nursing

  • the animal is recovering from an injury or illness

  • the animal requires some extra TLC

Fostering with us involves caring for an animal in your own home on a temporary basis. If an animal comes into the centre that we feel needs to be in a foster home, the fosterer collects the animal from the centre, along with food and equipment where needed, though anything you can provide the animal would be a huge help to us.

The length of time an animal is out on foster depends on many things. Some animals will stay in the foster home until they are rehomed (usually kittens/puppies), while some go into a foster home for a short time, then come back to the centre before they are rehomed.

We are responsible for all medical treatment, including flea and worming, and any veterinary treatment must be authorised by us and our own vet must be used.

There are a few requirements for fostering with us:

  • You either need to own your home, or live in a rented property that allows pets. If you rent, we need to have a permission letter from your landlord that specifically states that you are allowed to foster animals.

  • You need to have a full UK driving licence and access to a car, so you are able to drive foster animals to the vet in an emergency, and collect animals from, and return animals to the centre.

  • Any existing animals that you own must be neutered and up-to-date with their yearly vaccinations.

  • It is important that you live within a reasonable distance of the centre (a maximum of a 30 minute drive), so that you can travel to us and to our vets when needed.

Families with children and pets are welcome to apply.
