Run the 2027 TCS London Marathon for RSPCA Derby!

Every year, hundreds of animals come through our doors after difficult, sometimes heart breaking starts to life. We care for them, treat them, and find them loving new homes, and we fund every bit of it ourselves as an independent charity.

Running the 2027 TCS London Marathon for us means that every mile you cover helps make that possible. It's one of the world's great events, and we'd love you to run it for the animals that need our help.

Apply for a charity place

We have a small number of charity places available in the 2027 TCS London Marathon, and we're looking for motivated, committed runners to join Team RSPCA Derby.

If you're successful, you'll receive:

  • Fundraising tips and ideas to help you reach your target
  • A branded RSPCA Derby running vest for race day
  • Support and encouragement from our team all the way to the finish line

Charity place runners commit to raising a minimum of £1,750 (excluding Gift Aid). A non-refundable registration fee of £50 will be required to secure your place.

Please read our T&Cs and the event organisers T&Cs before applying, and take a look at the FAQs below which will help you complete your application form.

We'll start reviewing applications on Monday 25th May 2027 and will close applications once we have enough suitable candidates, so please don't leave it too long.

Applications are now closed.

Why run for RSPCA Derby?

We're an independent, self-funded charity based in Derby. We don't receive funding from the national RSPCA, we have to raise every penny ourselves, and it costs us over £12,000 a week to keep our animal centre running!

The money you raise goes directly towards the animals in our care, helping with veterinary treatment, food, and the day-to-day costs of giving rescue animals the time and support they need to find a loving home.

Your fundraising makes a real, local difference. We hope to see you on the start line!

Running for RSPCA Derby.

What is the selection criteria and what are you looking for?

We want to get to know you through your application. Please let us know any connection you have to RSPCA Derby, if you have previously fundraised for or supported us, and your detailed plan to meet the £1750 minimum fundraising target.

If you don't have a previous connection to us, don't worry! We just want to know that you are committed to the race and to raising the minimum target to help support local rescue animals.

The more thorough and detailed your responses are, the better we can get to know you!

What is the application deadline?

We will start reviewing applications on Monday 25th May and will close applications once we have enough suitable applicants.

How much will I have to pay?

We are covering the cost of your place in the 2027 London Marathon. A non-refundable registration fee of £50 will be required to secure your charity place if you are successful.

What happens on race day?

You will need to arrange and pay for your own travel and accommodation, along with any associated costs (food etc.). The organisers of the 2027 TCS London Marathon will send you an official Participant Guide several weeks before the event, which includes all the information you need to know about the race.

Can I apply for a place with a team of friends/family?

We have a very limited number of places so we can only take individual applications.

What is the fundraising timeline?

You will need to raise a minimum of £1000 by 15 March 2027 (6 weeks before race day).

The full amount must be raised by 7 June 2027 (6 weeks after race day).

What if I can’t raise all the money?

If you’re finding it difficult to reach your fundraising target, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We’re here to help and can offer support, ideas, and guidance to boost your fundraising efforts.

If you're still struggling and don’t feel able to meet the fundraising target, and are also unable to make up the shortfall yourself, please get in touch and we’ll review the situation on a case-by-case basis. Final decisions about your place will be at our discretion.

If you haven’t been able to raise a minimum of £1000 by 15 March 2027, we reserve the right to withdraw your place or defer your place until 2028.

What do I do if I want to withdraw from the race or I have an injury?

If you wish to withdraw from the race for any reason, you will need to notify us in writing, as soon as possible.

I have a question not answered here or on the London Marathon FAQ page.
