Bonnie’s Fight for Breath – and a New Beginning
When Bonnie arrived at our centre, it was clear something wasn’t right. At just four years old, she should have been full of energy—running, playing, and enjoying life. But instead, every single breath was a struggle.
Bonnie was diagnosed the worst case of BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) and stenotic nares (narrowed nostrils) our vets had ever seen. Her tiny airway was almost completely blocked, and her nostrils would collapse every time she tried to breathe in. Even the simplest things—walking, eating, and even resting—left her gasping for air. Sometimes, her brain was so starved of oxygen that she would pass out.
Our vet told us that without urgent surgery, Bonnie’s condition would only worsen, especially as the weather warmed up. She was booked in for life-changing surgery on 4th March, but we needed to raise £1,000 to cover the cost of her operation.
An Outpouring of Love
When we shared Bonnie’s story, the response was overwhelming. Animal lovers from near and far rallied together, and thanks to your generosity, we didn’t just reach our target—we smashed it! In total, our appeal raised over £1,800, including Gift Aid.
Bonnie’s surgery was complex, and at one point, we almost lost her. But this little fighter pulled through, and the difference in her breathing has been incredible. While she’ll never be completely cured, the operation has given her a new lease of life—one where she can breathe, play, and simply enjoy being a dog.
