From Painful Eyes to Purrfect Life

Fergal

Authored on: 18 June 2025

When Fergal the Norwegian Forest Cat arrived at our centre, we could see he was struggling.

This gentle giant was suffering from entropion, a painful condition where the eyelids roll inward, causing the eyelashes to constantly rub against the surface of the eye. It’s not only incredibly painful, but if left untreated, it can cause infection, ulcers and even permanent damage to a cat’s vision.

Fergal’s condition affected both eyes, although his right eye was worse, leaving him sore, squinty and miserable. But with your help, we were determined to turn his story around.

Thanks to our wonderful supporters, we raised the funds needed for Fergal’s specialist surgery, and after careful assessment, our vet team decided to operate onboth eyes, giving him the best chance at a full recovery.

The procedure was a complete success. In the days that followed, Fergal rested and healed, and had plenty of cuddles with our team. With the discomfort behind him, his personality really began to shine.

And then came the happy ending we’d all been hoping for - Fergal found his forever home!

His new family recently sent us this heart warming update:

"Fergal has settled in wonderfully, we were surprised how quickly he adjusted. It’s amazing to see his personality blossoming. He is a chatty boy who says his thoughts out loud! His favourite things are food and a cuddle. Fergal has settled in wonderfully and we’ve had no problems at all! We couldn’t have asked for a better cat and adoption. The RSPCA rehoming process was definitely a 10. Everyone was incredibly lovely and more than happy to go above and beyond."

These stories mean the world to us, and they’re only possible thanks to you. Your support helped Fergal get the treatment he needed, the care he deserved, and the loving home he’d been waiting for.

From all of us, and from Fergal, thank you!
