Deputy Charity Shop Manager - Chaddesden

Do you want to help raise funds for rescue animals in the heart of your local community?

RSPCA Derby is looking for a Deputy Manager to support the day-to-day running of our Chaddesden Charity Shop and help maximise the income that funds the care of rescue animals across Derbyshire.

As an independent, self-funded local charity, our shops play a vital role in generating the income we need to provide food, shelter, veterinary treatment and second chances for animals who need us most. This role is key to helping us achieve strong sales, maintain high standards and create a welcoming shop environment for customers and volunteers alike.

Working alongside the Shop Manager, you'll help ensure the shop runs smoothly, safely and successfully, while supporting and motivating our fantastic volunteer team.

About the role

This is a hands-on retail role where you'll support all aspects of shop management and step up to lead when required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Shop Manager to achieve sales and profit targets
  • Ensuring high standards of merchandising, presentation and display throughout the store
  • Helping manage stock processing, rotation, pricing and space allocation to maximise sales
  • Assisting with the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers
  • Opening and closing the shop when required, ensuring trading hours are adhered to
  • Supporting with cash handling, banking and accurate administrative procedures
  • Promoting Gift Aid and ensuring the scheme is operated correctly
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness

Because we're a small retail team, this role suits someone who is practical, proactive and enjoys being part of a supportive team.

Hours: 17.5 hours per week (2.5 days)

Salary: £11.07-£12.96 (2% above minimum wage, dependent on age)

Location: 495 Nottingham Road, Chaddesden, Derby. DE21 6NA

Weekend working is essential, and some Bank Holiday working may be required.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in retail or customer service (charity retail, fashion, homeware or department store experience is a bonus)
  • Confident supervising or supporting volunteers or team members
  • Organised and commercially aware, with a focus on achieving results
  • Friendly and customer-focused, with strong communication skills
  • Reliable, honest and able to take responsibility when required
  • Proactive and able to use their own initiative
  • Flexible and adaptable in a busy retail environment
  • Comfortable handling cash and operating a till

Strong merchandising and display skills would be beneficial, as would knowledge of retail law, Trading Standards or Health and Safety regulations, but these are not essential.

You must share our commitment to animal welfare and the work of RSPCA Derby.

Why join us?

RSPCA Derby is a small, local charity making a real difference for animals in our community.

This role offers the chance to:

  • Play a direct part in raising the funds that support rescue animals
  • Develop your retail and supervisory experience within the charity sector
  • Work with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers
  • Be part of a local organisation where your contribution truly matters
